Re: johnson 90 hp fuel problem????? I had a similar problem last year on my Johnson After much frustration, it turned out to be an improperly seated carburetor gasket (post rebuild). Apparently, after a few minutes of running WOT, the gasket would soak up fuel and expand enough to cause the outboard to die. Jul 8, #1. Ok, I'm pretty sure the carbs on my Johnson 90 need to be pulled and cleaned. Its a new to me boat that had a lot of neglect. The engine runs fine sometimes and gets real laggy others. I've been through a lot of other things including replacing old fuel lines, plugs, adding my fuel water seperator from my old boat.
